We took a four-day weekend from ANZAC day to explore the country we proudly call home. Heading inland through Beaudesert and Rathdowney, QLD we set up camp at Bigriggen Camping & Caravan Park with a bunch of mates. Entertainment for the kids was a priority with an almost equal number of adults to children. Luckily there’s a bike track, swimming area and tree swings to keep the energiser bunnies occupied.
It was well worth the scenic hour trek inland from Bigriggen to the Condamine Gorge 14 river crossings. No matter how many times we’ve driven this track, it’s great to explore at different times of the year.
There were plenty of spots to pull over and let the wildlings out - just be mindful of other drivers.
The pot of gold at the end of the river was lunch at Killarney Hotel, before heading back through the crossings and checking out Lake Maroon for future campsites.
Fire-cooked meals were the perfect way to end each day of adventure.
Opting for another scenic route home, we headed South past Mt Barney, down to Kyogle before heading back home.
CUT TO THE CHASE
Activities: Fishing, cycling, swimming, walking tracks.
Daytrips: Rathy Pub, Killarney Hotel, Condamine Gorge ‘14 River Crossing’, Lake Maroon, waterfalls galore.
Amenitites: Toilet, dump point and shower block ($1 = 5 minute shower).
Accessibility: Caravan, camper trailer, motor home, bus accessible.
Power: 30 powered sites or choice of your own non-powered camp.
Campfires: Allowed in designated areas when there is no fire ban.
Pets: Allowed on lead.
Rubbish: Bins provided at amenities block.

JUST A TIP
During peak times the amenities can get very busy, so it pays to take your own shower and/or toilet. Our last night decision for a glorious hot shower was met with a trip to Antarctica.
If you’re bringing man’s best friend ensure they’re treated for ticks and check them regularly (along with your offspring of course).
